Current procedures to ensure that conclusions in research papers from postgraduate research are based on valid measurements.

Date: 31/03/1999 Ref No: LGC/VAM/1999/038 Type: Report
Author(s): Edmonds T
Organisation/Publisher: LGC

In this document the extent to which data collected during postgraduate research is valid had been determined. It has been produced from answers given to a survey, developed for this study and interviews with postgraduate supervisors, a postgraduate of one of the supervisors, and a postdoctoral fellow also working for an interviewed supervisor. The data from the interviews was assessed against accepted good practice, i.e. the six VAM principles. The report makes 11 recommendations to improve the procedures that are already in place so that the quality of all postgraduate data is enhanced.
