Experiments to Determine Uncertainty Contributions in Derivatisation Techniques

Date: 31/07/2000 Ref No: LGC/VAM/2000/048 Type: Report
Author(s): Ellison SLR, Holcombe DG, Burn M
Organisation/Publisher: LGC

This report describes experiments to evaluate uncertainty contributions arising from derivatisation, with illustrations from studies of fatty acid derivatisation prior to analysis by gas chromatography.  The report presents the results of applying two basic experimental approaches and a variety of modelling approaches to uncertainty estimation. In one case, a detailed kinetic study was feasible; in the other, it was necessary to use a simpler designed experiment comparable to an optimisation design.
