Final Report Covering Project 4.2.2 Mass Spectrometry for Organic Analysis. Sub project areas covered: 4.2.2.1 to 4.2.2.4
This final report covers all of the activities that have contributed to the mass spectrometry for organic analysis project (4.2.2) during the current VAM programme (1997-2000). The main purpose behind this 3-year project was to develop and extend the scope of high accuracy organic analysis to a number of hyphenated mass spectrometric (MS) techniques. This work encompassed both accuracy of quantification and authenticity of identification. The benefits were to be shared with the UK analytical community by dissemination through publications and presentations, and by practical exercises organised under Project 4.2.3 Collaboration with the analytical community. An important aspect of the project was to establish a proven UK analytical capability in this area. The route for this was via the Comité Consultatif pour la Quantité de Matière (CCQM), whose purpose is to promote international equivalence in chemical measurements. This analytical capability was established by participating in a number of international blind trials, for a number of which LGC was selected by the CCQM as the pilot (lead) laboratory.
