Controlling Uncertainties in Extraction and Recovery and Controlling Matrix Effects: Interim Report. Part 2: Experimental studies and extraction modelling

Date: 31/03/2002 Ref No: LGC/VAM/2002/017 Type: Report
Author(s): Ellison SLR, Barwick VJ
Organisation/Publisher: LGC

VAM Project MU3 is intended to improve control of effects and uncertainties associated with analytical recovery by developing and applying quantitative modelling techniques to the problem. This report describes the work in the first nine months of the project, including:
i) the implementation of improved numerical modelling methods applied to extraction system modelling. It is shown that prediction uncertainties from the improved models are very considerably reduced compared to earlier, algebraic, modelling.
ii) A feasibility study of on-line FT-IR monitoring of a polymer additive extraction process using Soxhlet extraction.
