Calibration Service for Ultrafine Particle Counters
The need for a calibration service for instrumentation that measures ultrafine particle concentration was clearly identified during the formulation of the 1997-2000 VAM programme. The entire aim of the Ultrafine Particulates project has been to develop techniques to meet this need. These techniques have been amalgamated into a comprehensive set of calibration/validation procedures. The procedures are being utilised as the basis of a comprehensive calibration service, with the practical application of this calibration service currently being assessed. The Vehicle Particle Emission Club (VPEC) is undertaking a round robin intercomparison exercise of up to ten electrical mobility particle sizers over a six month period. Participants include a number of non-members of the Club. The results of the intercomparison will be published separately as a VPEC report. The experience gained during this exercise will be used to ensure the calibration service continually evolves to meet the needs of its users.
