Date: 01/10/2003 Ref No: LGC/MfB/2003/031 Type: Report
Author(s): Malcolm Burns & Jacquie Keer
Organisation/Publisher: LGC Ltd

Within the scientific community there is an increasing awareness of the need to quantify the uncertainty associated with biological measurements. The aim of the present study was to better understand the methods currently in use for data analysis and interpretation, and to obtain information on the existing level of awareness of uncertainty in biological measurement. The methods used included a discussion workshop, a follow-up e-mail consultation and an extensive literature review. This report details the results of the consultation and literature investigations, to illustrate current practice in the evaluation of uncertainty associated with biological measurements.
