Technologies

Since the invention of DNA amplification by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in 1985, analytical techniques for the detection of nucleic acid have continued to evolve rapidly. The increasing commercial interest in molecular biology and DNA analysis has led to improved levels of sensitivity as well as greater automation, parallelism and miniaturisation.

These pages* will cover current technologies from conventional PCR through to more recently developed methods such as real-time PCR detection and capillary electrophoresis:

(* Please note that the pieces of equipment shown in these pages are provided as examples, and that for most techniques there are other companies that provide similar technology.)
